Hardress Waller D'Arcy-Evans

Commander (retired) Hardress Waller D'Arcy-Evans, (8 June, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

As a Sub-Lt. in the R.N.R., D'Arcy-Evans survived the loss of the armed merchant cruiser H.M.S. Alcantara on 29 February, 1916. He was transferred into the Royal Navy as a Midshipman as a result of his service, granted seniority of that date.[1]

He would serve in Royal Sovereign from April 1916 to March 1917, suffering a bout with appendicitis in November, and then serve in Benbow until 4 March 1918 when he was sent to H.M.S. Vernon for a course in Torpedo Control.[2]

D'Arcy-Evans was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1920.[3]

D'Arcy-Evans was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1928.[4]

World War II

D'Arcy-Evans commanded a squadron of L.C.Is. at shore establishment Copra before he was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 8 June, 1943. Command of other landing craft formations would follow.[5]

He reverted to the Retired List on 20 September, 1946.[6]
