Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. (retired) William Ernest Crumplin (20 November, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Crumplin was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant R.N.R. on 26 June, 1906.[1]

He retired on 31 December, 1911.[2]

Crumplin was appointed to the light cruiser Champion on 5 December, 1915. He may have have narrowly missed being in her when she fought at the Battle of Jutland as a leader of the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla, as he had been appointed to Pembroke on 25 May. On 15 June, 1916 he was appointed to the destroyer Thrasher.[3]

Crumplin was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 027 on 14 October, 1916[4] and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 21 October, 1916. Mentioned in despatches on 26 September, 1918, he commanded the torpedo boat until he was demobilised on 11 January, 1919.[5]

Crumplin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 21 June, 1924.[6]

World War II

In 1948, Crumplin reported that he his hernia and age precluded him from naval service.
