U.S.S. Grampus was one of seven Plunger (or "A") class submarines completed for the U.S. Navy.

Construction

Grampus was the first U.S. Navy submarine to be built on the West Coast.

Service

Grampus commissioned at the Mare Island Navy Yard on 28 May, 1903 under the command of Lieutenant Arthur MacArthur III.

Grampus was renamed A-3 on 17 November, 1911.
