Commander (retired) Sydney Boyd Boyd-Richardson (18 October, 1883 – 14 April, 1936) was an officer in the Royal Navy. Prior to March of 1906, he was simply Sydney Boyd Richardson.

Life & Career

Born in Sydney, Australia.

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1903.[1]

He invented a torpedo deflection plotter around 1912, possibly while serving as torpedo officer in Colossus. It is hard to read, but it appears that it was judged "ingenious & on sound lines."

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander dated 1 January, 1914.

He was appointed in command of the General Wolfe in May 1918. He captained her through the end of the war. An appointment in command of Nairana dated 27 December was cancelled when he took ill.

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 5 February, 1925, Boyd-Richardson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 18 October, 1928.
