S.M.S. Saida
Drawing: John Dulaney.

S.M.S. Saida was a rapid kreuzer of the Imperial and Royal Austro-Hungarian Navy. She was the second ship of the Admiral Spaun class.

Background

She was laid down 9 September 1911. Like Helgoland before her, she had heavier armament than Admiral Spaun.

Combat History

Saida started the war with machinery issues. Her first action was 23 May 1915 when she participated in the bombardment of Porto Corsini. On 17 August of that year, Saida along with Helgoland bombarded the island of Pelagosa, and then the two ships on 22-23 November and again 5-6 December saw action in the Strait of Otranto.
