Vice-Admiral SIR Robert O'Brien FitzRoy, K.C.B., F.R.G.S., Royal Navy (2 April, 1839 – 7 May, 1896) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

FitzRoy was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 5 September, 1859.[1]

FitzRoy was promoted to the rank of Commander on 13 February, 1866.[2]

Appointed to Prince Consort from 21 July, 1868 until being invalided at Malta on 4 August, 1871.[3]

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 5 February, 1872, FitzRoy was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 6 February, 1872.[4]

He was appointed in command of the battleship Invincible on 1 January, 1881.[5]

FitzRoy was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 14 May, 1888, vice Edye.[6]

FitzRoy participated in the Naval Manoeuvres in 1891, 1892 and 1893, being placed in command of the Blue Side representing a nation challenging Britain's control of the seas in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1893. His flag was in H.M.Y. Alexandra on all three manoeuvres.[7]
