Admiral John William Brackenbury, C.B., C.M.G., Royal Navy (30 November, 1842 – 15 March, 1918) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

On the occasion of Queen Victoria's golden jubilee, he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 21 June, 1887.[1] He was appointed in command of the cruiser Turquoise, on the East Indies Station, on 14 September.[2]


Flag Rank

Brackenbury was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 10 October, 1896, vice Stephenson.[3]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral dated 7 December, 1901, vice Stephenson.[4]

Brackenbury was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 8 June, 1905, vice Fellowes,[5] and placed on the Retired List at his own request on 5 July, in accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903.[6]
