Rear-Admiral (retired) John Hext, K.C.I.E., R.N. (14 October, 1842 – 8 May, 1924) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hext was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 16 June, 1865.[1]

On 15 July, 1873, he was gazetted for having been in command of a boat at the attack at Elmina in the Ashanti War. On 18 November, he was again gazetted and specially mentioned for services at an attack at Ampire[?]. Astonishingly, he was gazetted a third time on 25 November.[2]

Hext was promoted to the rank of Commander on 28 March, 1874.[3]

Hext was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1882.[4]

Hext was placed on the Retired List owing to non-service on 5 November, 1889 and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 May, 1897.[5]
