Commander John Ambrose Slee, C.B.E. (24 May, 1878 – 20 March, 1944) served in the Royal Navy who was inventive but suffered from poor visual acuity.
Life & Career
Born in Wimbledon.
Slee was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1899.[1]
In 1903 he invented a system for automatic ammunition supply, and in 1904 a method of defending harbours against torpedo attacks.[2]
Slee was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1907. On 14 August 1908 he was appointed a member of the Committee on W/T Codes and Cyphers.[3]
Slee was placed on the Retired List owing to defective vision at the rank of Commander on 1 December, 1919.[4]
