Lieutenant R.N.R. (temporary) James Alford Chalmers, ( – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Chalmers was connected to Barry Poultry Farm in Barry.[1]

Chalmers was promoted to the rank of Temporary Sub-Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 January, 1915 and was appointed in command of the armed drifter Reclaim. Five days later, he was moved to be in command of the armed drifter City of Liverpool. He left her on 2 May 1915 to join Cromer[?], being promoted to the rank of Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. on that same date.[2]

In 1916 he was appointed in command of the Auxiliary Patrol Paddler Emperor of India II, which apparently placed him at Port Said. On 22 November 1917 he applied for transfer to Home Waters, and was promised relief "as soon as possible." In April 1918, Emperor of India II was renamed Mahratta. Chalmers arrived in England on leave on 19 June 1918.[3]

On 20 July 1918 he was appointed to a minesweeping course in Portsmouth, to be placed in command of a minesweeping trawler in Auxiliary Patrol Area XIII upon completing the course.
