H.M.S. Minerva was commissioned in 1897 as one of nine Eclipse class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy. She was sold in 1920 and her name was taken by the former monitor M.33 when she was converted to a minelayer in 1925.

Service

In August 1900, she was one of six cruisers at Chatham ordered to receive wireless telegraphy systems along with Sans Pareil, then port guarship at Sheerness.[9]

Minerva left Lagos on 13 August, 1903.[10]

In mid-1913, Minerva was acting as flagship of Sixth Destroyer Flotilla, a patrol flotilla.[11]

She re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 1 January, 1918.[12]
