H.M.S. Lychnis (1917)
Pendant Number: T.56 (Jan, 1918)[1]
Builder: William Hamilton & Company[2]
Ordered: Dec, 1916[3]
Launched: 21 Aug, 1917[4]
Sold: 1946[5]
H.M.S. Lychnis was one of twelve Aubrietia Class convoy sloops completed for the Royal Navy.

In September 1921, she was transferred to the Royal Indian Marine, then becoming H.M.I.S. Cornwallis.[6]

Service

On 17 June, 1918 while operating between Sardinia and Sicily under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Cyril John Laugham Noakes, Lychnis forced U 64 to the surface by depth charging her before destroying her by gunfire, leaving five survivors. Noakes was awarded a D.S.O. for the feat.[7]
