Service

Cressy passed into the Steam Reserve on 24 May, 1901,[8] and was commissioned at Portsmouth on 28 May by Captain Henry M. T. Tudor for service on the China Station.[9]

She recommissioned at Chatham on 31 October, 1911.[10]

In December, 1912, she was part of the Seventh Cruiser Squadron. She remained in that formation until her loss on 22 September, 1914.

Torpedoes

In 1904, in a competition to investigate how rapidly submerged tubes could be fired four times sequentially, starting with the tube loaded and the bar out, the ship's crew was able to do this in the astonishing time of 50.75 seconds, though 2:30 was more typical.[11]
