Admiral SIR George Price Webley Hope, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., Royal Navy (11 October, 1869 – 11 July, 1959) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

On 12 December, 1895, Hope was appointed to the new battleship Magnificent.[1]

Hope was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1900.[2]

Great War

On 29 July, 1914, Hope was appointed in command of H.M.S. King Alfred. He retained this command until 1 October, when he was appointed to Victory at Portsmouth for command of the new battleship Queen Elizabeth.

On 15 December, 1916 he went to the Admiralty as Second Director of the Operations Division on the War Staff. He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 April, 1917, vice Anson.[3] On 11 June, 1917 he succeeded Rear-Admiral Thomas Jackson as Director of the division.[4] He retained this position until 9 January, 1918, and on the 10th he was appointed Deputy First Sea Lord and a Lord Commissioner of the Board of Admiralty.

Post-War

Hope was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 24 November, 1925, vice de Robeck, promoted to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet.
