Lieutenant-Commander George Donald Henry MacKinnon, (6 April, 1876 – 19 May, 1927) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in London, the son of a Reverend.[1]

On 24 February 1898, MacKinnon was tried in Court Martial on charges of embezzlement and the making of false statements while serving aboard H.M.S. Harrier. He was acquitted of this charge but was found to have been grossly negligent. He was to be dismissed hte service, but this was reduced to a loss of a years' seniority. He was dismissed Harrier and sent to Barfleur very briefly, and then to the destroyer Intrepid.[2]

In July 1899, MacKinnon was appointed to the first class protected cruiser Europa for the Annual Manoeuvres of 1899.[3]

MacKinnon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1900. This was pushed back to 30 June, 1901 in light of his earlier Court Martial.[4]

MacKinnon finished his last recorded service in the battleship Russell in March, 1909. Despite notes that his wine bill was to be limited, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1909.[5]

He was retired owing to non-service on 20 March, 1913. I see no indication that he served in the Great War.[6]
