Admiral Edward George Shortland, C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (2 November, 1855 – 7 April, 1929) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Shortland was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1894.[1]
Captain
He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1900.[2]
Shortland was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 11 April, 1912.[3]
Great War
Shortland was mentioned in despatches by the Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force, Field Marshal Sir John French.[4] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 5 March, 15,[5] and was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 25 August, 1918.[6] On 3 June, 1915, Shortland was appointed a Companion in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.).[7]
