Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. Charles Woodruffe, ( – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Woodruffe received instruction in paddle minesweepers in March 1916 and was promoted to the temporary rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 5 May, 1916.

Commanded H.M.S. Grenade, whose specifics I cannot discover, from 21 November 1916. She collided with a steamship on 15 January 1917 and Woodruffe was blamed for leaving the vessel in command of an inexperienced man.

Commanded the paddle minesweeper Glen Avon from around September 1917 until 26 April, 1919 when he was sent as a spare C.O. for the Eighth Fleet Sweeping Flotilla at Queenstown. Superseded on 28 May 1919,

Commanded the paddle minesweeper Waverley from 6 March, 1917 to 28 October 1918.
