Rear-Admiral Charles Edward Gissing, R.N., Retired (31 October, 1845 – 39 March, 1916) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
In June 1875, Gissing was qualified as an interpreter in Swahili.
Gissing was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 3 April, 1865.
Gissing was promoted to the rank of Commander on 9 March, 1881.
Gissing was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1888.
Gissing was retired under the provisions of Order in Council of 22 February, 1870 on 6 April, 1897.
Gissing was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral (retired) on 24 January, 1902.
