Captain Arthur Thomas Stuart, M.V.O., Royal Navy (12 April, 1856 – 11 July, 1908) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1879[1]
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1894.[2]
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1901.[3]
Stuart was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Terrible on 3 January, 1905. On 4 May, he was appointed in command of Triumph. However, his stay in her was short, as on 22 May, 1905 he was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Donegal. On 24 October, 1905 he was appointed as captain of the armoured cruiser Devonshire, pending her completion.[4]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Dominion on 8 May, 1907 and remained in her until being superseded on 25 January, 1908.[5]
Though some protracted health issues were arising in early 1908, Stuart was appointed in command of the battleship Repulse and a Division of Battleships and Special Service Vessels at Devonport on 23 May. On 12 June, however, he was admitted to Plymouth Hospital in a bad way. Stuart died of organic heart disease on 11 July, 1908.[6]
