Captain Arthur Beckett Hughes, C.B.E., R.N. (28 July, 1873 – 8 April, 1925) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Reverend J. Hughes gained eight months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Hughes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in April, 1896.
Hughes was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1907.
Hughes commanded the battleship Ocean from April 1914 until Captain Arthur Hayes-Sadler arrived in August, at which time Hughes took over the role of second-in-command. He survived her sinking on 18 March 1915.
Hughes was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1915.
Post-War
Hughes was appointed in command of the light cruiser Yarmouth on 1 March, 1919.[1]
Hughes was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit with chronic nephritis on 22 March, 1922.
Hughes would die "suddenly" in 1925.
