Captain (retired) Algernon William Abbott, (1 July, 1864 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve before transferring into the Royal Navy in 1895.

Life & Career

Abbott was transferred into the R.N. at the rank of Lieutenant on 31 October, 1895.[1]

He was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Commander on 1 July, 1909.[2]

In November 1914 he was appointed as Assistant to the Mobilising Officer, Trawler Reserve, Hull. In April 1917, Rear-Admiral Nicholson requested that Abbott be "relieved by a more zealous & tactful officer." On 2 June, he was appointed in command of Net Drifters, being borne on the books of Osiris II. On 6 October 1917 he was made Patrol Commander at Salonica.[3]
