Admiral Algernon Walker-Heneage-Vivian, C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (4 February, 1871 – 26 February, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Heneage was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 14 November, 1890.[1]

He was confirmed in the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 14 November, 1892.[2]

Heneage was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 2 May, 1900, for services in South Africa.[3]

Heneage was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1906.[4]

He was appointed command of second class protected cruiser Hyacinth on 10 January, 1907.[5]

On 1 February, 1910, Heneage was appointed to the command of H.M.S. Andromache.[6]

Great War

He was appointed in command of Albion on 1 August, 1914.[7]

Heneage was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1916.[8]

He was appointed in command of H.M.S. Queen in August 1917.[9]

Heneage was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 31 January, 1918, vice Foot.[10] On 9 March he was appointed British Senior Naval Officer, Italy.[11]

Post-War

Heneage was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 29 July, 1920, "in order to facilitate the promotion of younger officers."[12] On 21 July, 1921, he was granted Royal License to alter his name to Algernon Walker-Heneage-Vivian.[13]

Walker-Heneage-Vivian was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 8 October, 1923,[14] was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 August, 1927.[15]
