Captain (retired) Alfred William John Finlayson, (3 September, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Bowm[?].[1]

Finlayson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1910.[2]

Finlayson served in Shannon as Flag Lt. (S) to Rear-Admiral Gough-Calthorpe from the outbreak of war to the 31 May, 1916. In the latter half of the year, he was appointed to Campania for signal duties with Kite Balloon Observers.[3]

On 3 December, 1916, Finalyason was sent to Iron Duke for Signal duties on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Grand Fleet. He remained in this post through the end of the war, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1918.[4]

Finlayson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1924.[5]

Finlayson was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 22 December, 1933.[6]
