Admiral of the Fleet SIR Alfred Dudley Pickman Rogers Pound, G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., Royal Navy (29 August, 1877 – 21 October, 1943) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Contents
Early Life & Career
On 16 October, 1897, Pound was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 29 August, 1896.[1]
On 29 August, 1898, Pound was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1909.[3]
Captain
Flag Rank
Pound was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 March, 1926.[4]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 15 May, 1930, vice Fuller.[5]
Pound was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 16 January, 1935, vice Preston.[6]
First Sea Lord
Pound was promoted to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet on 31 July, 1939, vice Tyrwhitt.[7]
On 1 October, 1941, Pound was appointed First and Principal Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George VI, vice Drax.[8]
Mrs. Sheila de Molyns, the daughter of Pound's former admiral in Colossus, acidly noted of his death: "It probably suited Churchill."[9]
