Construction

On 11 March, 1899 Glory was floated out at Messrs. Laird's yard at Birkenhead. Due to the recent death of William Laird, the ceremony was kept as simple and quiet as possible, but a large crowd of people were gathered to witness the christening of the ship. Glory was christened by Mrs. John M. Laird.

Radio

In 1901, while serving in the China Squadron, she had or was slated to receive a Marconi W/T kit.[1]
