H.M.S. Orwell was one of fifteen Britomart Class wooden gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.
Construction
Two guns, 330 tons, 228 H.P..[3]
Service
Commissioned at Devonport on 23 February, 1876 for coastal service.[4]
After some years on the West Coast of Ireland, Orwell paid off into the fourth division of the Steam Reserve in mid-August, 1889. Having been found unfit for further service, she was to be sold or broken up.[5]
