Jump to navigationJump to searchCommander (retired) Hubert George Alston, (15 July, 1866 – ) served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Alston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 October, 1895.
He was placed on the Retired list at his own request with a step in rank on 6 November, 1909.
On 12 October 1914 he was appointed in command of the armed yacht Hecate, remaining there until 9 March 1915 when he was appointed to the Shetland Islands for shore service, eventually being placed in charge of Auxiliary Patrol Area II.
On 23 January 1918 he was commended for good work with the Scandinavian convoy system. Soon thereafter, he was serving as an acting Captain (retired) as the Convoy Officer, Methil.
