Montague Wriothesley Noel

Commander (retired) Montague Wriothesley Noel, (12 November, 1892 – 6 April, 1941) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born the son of Rear-Admiral (later Admiral) Francis Charles Methuen Noel joined Royal Naval College, Osborne in the September, 1905 intake term.

He was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for lifesaving at sea. He would add a clasp to it in December, 1917.

Noel was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1915.[1]

Noted as a "gd organizer" with "gd manner", Noel was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1923.[2]

Noel was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 21 January, 1936.[3]

World War II

Commanded yacht Anna Mane[?] from 16 November, 1940 and is presumed killed in command.

Personal Life

Noel married Christabel Florence Arthur Startin and had four children.
