Rear-Admiral Edgar Lees, C.B.E., Royal Navy, Retired (11 May, 1866 – 10 September, 1925) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Lees was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant dated 30 August, 1888.[1]
Lees served as Naval Aide-de-Camp to General Sir Redvers Buller at the beginning of the Second Boer War. There is a story that after a bloody reverse at the Battle of the Tugela Heights the general and his staff were dining in a tent, and Lees remarked, "Do they ever try Generals by court-martial in your service?"[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 30 June, 1900.[3]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, Lees was placed on the Retired list on 20 November, 1906, at his own request.[5]
He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the Retired List dated 1 June, 1916.[6]
He was appointed a Commander of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) on 1 January, 1919.[7]
