H.M.S. Melampus was one of 21 Apollo class second-class cruisers completed in the early to mid 1890s.

Service

Melampus was brought to full complement in July 1896 in order to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1896 under the command of Captain Charles P. G. Hicks.[5][6][7]
