Captain (retired) Wentworth Vernon Cole, R.N. (20 April, 1861 – 26 April, 1934) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Cirencester, the son of W. L[?]. Cole, Esq..[1]
Cole was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1884.[2]
Cole's time in command of Magpie featured a 9 December 1897 inspection in which the ship and her company were found to be in creditable condition, but the lower deck was observed to be "infested with cockroaches."[3]
Cole was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1899.[4]
Cole sat on a Court Martial on the books of Emerald from 25 August, 1908 through at least October.[5]
Cole retired at his own request on 30 November, 1908.[6]
Cole was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 30 June, 1914. In September, he was granted permission to reside in India.[7]
Cole died at sea aboard the P. & O. steamer Rajputana in April 1934.[8]
