H.M.S. Vanessa was one of twenty-five "V" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

In May 1918, Vanessa joined the Eleventh Destroyer Flotilla, operating with the Grand Fleet.[5]

Vanessa re-commissioned on 3 October, 1918.[6]

She was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 15 September, 1924 for service with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[7]

Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 27 May, 1927 for service with the Second Destroyer Flotilla, which was now in the Mediterranean.[8]

Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 3 December, 1929 for continued service in the Mediterranean with 2DF.[9]
