Captain (retired) John Barff Hancock, R.N. (3 October, 1872 – 13 March, 1954) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hancock entered Britannia in January, 1886 after placing eighth in order of merit of the forty candidates for naval cadetship that were accepted for acceptance following a round of examinations in late November, 1885.[1]

Hancock was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 November, 1893.

Hancock was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 25 June, 1912 and subsequently promoted to the rank of Commander (retired) on 3 October, 1912.

Hancock was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) in recognition of services rendered during the war with a seniority date of 11 November, 1918.
