Captain R.N.R. Sidney Reginald Lane, R.N.R. (15 January, 1874 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve. His first name was sometimes offered as "Sydney".

Life & Career

Lane was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 August, 1905.[1]

Lane was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 August, 1913.[2]

He commanded the hired yacht Evening Star from 22 June 1915 to 28 June, 1916.

Lane was appointed in command of the hired H.M. yacht Kethailes on 28 June, 1916. He rendered "good service" on 28 September 1917 when S.S. William Middleton was mined. Kethailes was lost in a collision with S.S. Leicestershire in St. George's channel on 11 October, 1917. Two officers and fifteen others were killed. Nine of the eleven survivors were rescued by the patrol boat H.M.S. P 44.[3]

A 22 August 1918 inspection of Ard Patrick by Vice-Admiral, Naval Base Buncrana found her efficiency satisfactory. Lane was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 31 December, 1918. He was demobilised on 21 June 1919. He was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain R.N.R. on 15 January, 1924.[4]

In 1947, he reported that he was a retired Master Mariner living in Bournemouth.
