H.M.S. Kestrel was one of forty "C" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".
Service
She and Ure arrived at Sheerness with ten torpedo boats on 13 July, 1905.[8]
In late 1905, she was one of eight destroyers in the First Division of the Channel Fleet's Destroyer Flotilla.[9]
She was one of twenty-seven T.B.Ds. of the Portsmouth Flotilla to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1909.[10]
In march 1910, she belonged to the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, which was part of the Third Division, Home Fleet.
She left the Nore to exercise with five other destroyers and seven torpedo boats of the Nore Local Defence Flotilla on 18 June, 1912.[11]
From the outbreak of war through March 1918, she was one of the twelve T.B.Ds. of the Nore Local Defence Flotilla.[12] In March 1918, she moved with three flotilla-mates to join the Irish Sea Flotilla.
