Captain Arthur Russell Hulbert, Royal Navy (9 April, 1871 – 12 January, 1913) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

He was mentioned in despatches for his service with the Naval Brigade in China.

Lent to the second class battleship Benbow as Lieutenant (T) for the Annual Manoeuvres of 1895.[1]

Hulbert was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1908.[2]

In December 1910, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Highflyer.

On 14 November, 1911, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Venus as Captain (D) of the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla.[3]

He was appointed to the scout cruiser Blonde on 10 May, 1912 in command of the First Destroyer Flotilla.[4]

Hulbert drowned at Harwich on 12 January, 1913. He had been seen walking on the quarterdeck of the Blonde at 0920.[5] A man on the neighbouring depot ship Tyne saw a splash, but dismissed it as a sailor taking a morning swim.[6]
