H.M.S. Alacrity was one of two Surprise Class third class protected cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
She re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 18 February, 1890.[6]
Arrived at Singapore in early December, 1896 in company with Centurion, the T.B.Ds. Handy and Hart and the torpedo cruiser Porpoise.[7]
She re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 20 September, 1906.[8]
Re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 8 October, 1910.[9]
On 8 October, 1911, she replaced Minotaur as Vice-Admiral Alfred Leigh Winsloe's flagship on the China Station, but handed back the role on 5 March, 1912. She was again flagship from 1 April to 19 September, 1912.[10]
