Commander R.N.R. (retired) Aubrey Richard Courteney Douton (4 August, 1890 – ) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. He is at The National Archives as "Courtenay".
Life & Career
Douton was appointed to the monitor Abercrombie in May, 1915.
Douton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 5 July, 1916. His captain in Abercrombie, Alldin Usborne Moore, recommended him for a commission in the Royal Navy in December, but this apparently did not come to pass.[1]
Douton was appointed in command of the patrol boat PC 61 on 16 September, 1918.[2]
Demobilised on 15 October 1919.[3]
Douton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 5 July, 1924.[4]
Retired on 30 May 1925, Douton was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on the Retired List on 4 August, 1930.[5]
World War II
Some work with Coastal Convoys on the books of Pembroke. In 1949, he gamely reported himself living in Wales, unemployed but fit for general service should the need arise.[6]
