Captain (retired) William Henry George Nowell, ( – 25 November, 1906) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Nowell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 7 March, 1867.[1]

In early 1875, the Commodore spoke highly of Nowell's command of the survey schooner Sandfly. However, in July some dissatisfaction was expressed, possibly pertaining to neglecting gunnery on board the ship.[2]

In January 1877, he was commended for repairs performed aboard Renard.

On 15 October 1879, Nowell was tried by Court Martial for grounding Foxhound. He was sentenced to be severely reprimanded.[3]

Nowell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1881.[4]

he retired at his own request on 22 February 18[illeg].[5]

Nowell was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 31 December, 1896.[6]
