Vice-Admiral James Charles Tancred (17 September, 1864 – 9 December, 1943) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Tancred was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 31 December, 1901.[1]
He was promoted to the rank of Captain dated 30 June, 1908.[2]
In March 1911, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Fox.[3]
Tancred was appointed to Marlborough on 27 November, 1913 as she was nearing completion, but he would not be her commissioning officer.[4]
He was appointed command of the armoured cruiser Argyll on 22 June, 1914.[5] On 28 October, 1915, he was in command when the ship ran hard aground in fog, resulting in her total loss.
He was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 2 August, 1919 and retired the following day.
He was promoted to Vice-Admiral on 1 January, 1925.
