Wybrants Olphert

Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. (retired) Wybrants Olphert, D.S.C., D.S.O.*, R.D., R.N.R. (15 September, 1879 – 1938) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Olphert was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 10 December, 1914. He volunteered to serve in "special service vessels", or "Q" ships.[1]

Olphert was taken as a prisoner of war in Germany when Salvia, AKA Q15 was sunk on 20 June, 1917. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 December, 1917.[2]

Olphert was mentioned in despatches and specially promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 22 June, 1919.[3]
