Vice-Admiral William Des Vœux Hamilton, Royal Navy (17 September, 1852 – 15 February, 1907) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 22 December, 1874.[1]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 7 September, 1883.[2]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1889.[3]

He assumed command of the destroyer Grafton in September 1895, remaining with her until May 1896.

He was appointed in command of the battleship Ramillies on 10 November, 1896, and assumed command on 9 December. He was also appointed Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean, Sir John O. Hopkins.[4]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 13 February, 1907, vice Powell.[9] He died just two days later, of heart failure precipitated by Mediterranean fever.[10]
