Commander (retired) William Bevill Rowbotham, (15 October, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Rowbotham was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1902.

Rowbotham was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1910.

On 6 January, 1913, Rowbotham was appointed as first and torpedo officer for the battlecruiser H.M.S. Indomitable. He served in this capacity through 5 July, 1915.

In mid-August 1915, he was appointed in command of what might be mining vessels (his Service Record is hard to read). He kept up this work through 26 October, 1918.

In September 1919, he was appointed to work with the C.M.B.s at Osea Naval Base. On 14 April, 1921 he was appointed in command of Haslar Coastal Motorboat Base. His work eventually also placed him in command of the boats. He was superseded in this in 1 September, 1923.

Rowbotham was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 29 May, 1926.

World War II

Work with D.E.M.S. from September 1939, then to D.T.S.D. from May, 1941. Reverted to Retired List January 1947, but continued work with D.T.S.D.'s Historical Section through January, 1950.
