Captain R.N.R. (retired) Walter Cyprian Battle, D.S.C., R.D., R.N.R. (29 April, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Battle was born in Lincoln.

Battle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 15 March, 1912.[1]

Battle served in the armed merchant cruiser Carmania from 8 August 1914 to 29 June 1915, at which time he was temporarily demobilised.[2]

Battle served in M.25 from 5 May and M.28 from 30 June, 1916 until perhaps 23 August, 1917 when he was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 29.[3]

Demobilised on 8 March 1919, Battle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 15 March, 1920.[4]

Battle was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. and to Captain R.N.R. at some point.

World War II

Battle commanded a series of transports: Samaria, Scythia, Samaria again, Aquitania, Queen Elizabeth, Template:UK-Britannic, Aquitania again, Mauretania, Pasteur, Mauretania and Aquitania again.[5]

In 1948, he reported that he was a representative of a wholesale fruit and potato company, and considered himself fit for general service.[6]
