U.S.S. Bonita was one of five Octopus (or "C") class submarines completed for the U.S. Navy.

Service

She commissioned on 23 November 1909, Lieutenant Frederick V. McNair, Jr. in command.

On 17 November, 1911, Bonita was redesignated C-4.

In 1916, all five "C" class boats were stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, their crews living aboard U.S.S. Severn, assisted by the tug Potomac.[3]
