Sydney Hopkins ( – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hopkins was appointed in command of the destroyer Itchen on 10 August, 1912.[1]

On 14 April, 1913, Hopkins was appointed in command of the destroyer Sparrowhawk.[2] He was her captain at the Battle of Jutland, when she was sunk in night fighting as part of the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla after colliding with flotilla leader H.M.S. Broke.[3] Hopkins survived and wrote her official report on the battle.

Hopkins was appointed in command of the destroyer Somme on 2 October, 1918.[4]

He was appointed in command of the second destroyer Sparrowhawk on 1 February, 1920.[5]
