Captain (retired) Stanley Talbot Dean-Pitt, C.B., R.N. (29 May, 1840? – 24 September, 1936) served in the Royal Navy. He had a flair for harbour work, designing fixed defences and moorings.

Life & Career

Dean-Pitt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on [illeg]?

Dean-Pitt was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1892.[1]

Dean-Pitt was appointed in command of Malta's guard ship, Hibernia on 16 November, 1896. He left her after being appointed to join Melampus on 24 October, 1898.

Dean-Pitt was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain on 29 May, 1903.[2]

From 1903 to 1910, Dean-Pitt was appointed additional to a series of ships, always working on moorings in Gibraltar.

Dean-Pitt designed and effected the sinking of blockships to secure Scapa Flow against submarine incursion. He served as Officer in Charge, Boom Defences in Scapa Flow during the war.
