Ten flotilla leaders of the Scott Class were ordered late in the war, but though only two were canceled outright, few of those launched saw service before the end of the war.

Machinery

Generators

In 1916, it was stated that flotilla leaders have two 26.25 kw dynamos arranged in parallel with an additional 9 kw oil-fired set for emergency use.[1] It is likely that this applied to this class.

Armament

Guns

In 1918, it was ordered that the Scott class flotilla leaders and destroyers of "V" and "W" classes should have range and deflection receivers for their 3-in H.A. guns and fire gongs worked off the firing key used for the ships' L.A. weaponry.[3]

Additionally, those destroyers with director installations were to additionally receive:[4]

  • a voice pipe from T.S. to director
  • a fire gong at director worked from existing push in T.S.
  • a fire gong push on fore bridge to be added, wired in parallel to that in the T.S.
  • the repeat receivers on the fore bridge were to be positioned so as to be visible to the director sightsetter.

Torpedoes

  • two Triple Revolving tubes on the centerline.[5]

Firing Circuits[6]
Training and Slewing Circuits[7]

In 1917, it was approved that all flotilla leaders except Swift and Abdiel should receive installations of the British Destroyer Director Firing System,[8] though no installations of this equipment were completed prior to 1918.[9]

On 26 January, 1918, Scott had her director's tilt test performed at Portsmouth.[10]

The Small Type Training Receivers were pattern number 20 on #1, #2 and #3, whereas #4 and #5 had pattern number 21.[11]

Torpedo Control

Torpedo Control Circuits[12]

Sighting positions were situated on both sides of a bridge that had been enlarged from earlier classes with firing pushes and keys for sounding buzzers at the tubes. The order and deflection transmitters were situated centrally on a panel on the bridge, between the two sights.[13]

The Scott class were also equipped with Chadburn's Torpedo Telegraphs for Orders and Deflection and battery-worked electrical firing and firing gongs.[14]

Dreyer Table

These ships had no fire control tables.[15]
