Captain (retired) Robin Edmund Jeffreys, D.S.C. (15 November, 1890 – ) served in the Royal Navy as a signal officer.

Life & Career

The son of Colonel H. B. Jeffreys of the Royal Horse Artillery. Emerging from the Training Establishment in May 1908, he would serve one year in Bacchante and then six months in Dreadnought, and another six in the scout cruiser Boadicea.

In May 1910, he was placed in Indomitable for a half year, and then moved to the battleship Agamemnon until undertaking examinations from mid-May 1911.

Jeffreys was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1912.

Upon the outbreak of war, he was in Cornwall. On 15 February 1915 he went to the Portsmouth Signal School for a course, qualifying as a Lietenant (S) in August. He then became the signal lieutenant to R/A Fremantle, a relationship that would carry him through most of the war and see Jeffreys supporting the Rear-Admiral through command of the Third Battle Squadron, the Eastern Mediterranean Squadron, Ninth Cruiser Squadron, Second Cruiser Squadron and finally the Aegean Squadron. In this protracted role, he served first in Hibernia, then Russell from February 1916 and then King Alfred in July 1916. On 28 January 1917 he was appointed to Minotaur, still under Fremantle.

Jeffreys was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1920.

He served as Signal Officer and Fleet W/T Officer and Squadron W/T officer in Queen Elizabeth from 1 May 1924. He was to go to Barham as Squadron W/T Officer on 15 August 1924. At a later point, he transferred to Iron Duke and then back to Queen Elizabeth on 29 October, 1925, once again becoming Fleet W/T Officer. After some time in Warspite, he finally was superseded in these duties in December 1926.

Jeffreys was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1926.

Jeffreys was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 March, 1937.

World War II
