Admiral Robert William Craigie, Royal Navy (25 July, 1849 – 21 August, 1911) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Craigie attended North Grove House at Southsea, and passed first out of 64 candidates for Naval Cadetships.[1]

Craigie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 3 September, 1872.[2]

For services in the South African War, he was promoted to the rank of Commander on 6 November, 1879.[3]

Craigie was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1886.[4]

Craigie was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 August, 1900, vice Lloyd.[5]

Craigie succeeded Rear-Admiral Swinton C. Holland as Admiral Superintendent of Chatham Dockyard on 2 September, 1902.[6] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 24 February, 1905, vice Wilson.[7]

He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 2 July, 1908, vice Henderson.[8] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 5 November, 1908.[9]
